As part of the CDT-CARD project, a multifunctional reader with imaging module, Cytation 5, was purchased in December 2022.

The instrument allows the reading of:

• Absorbance (wavelength range: 230-999 nm, with 1 nm steps),
• Fluorescence (top/bottom measurement, excitation and emission wavelength range 250-700 nm, adjustable in 1 nm steps, monochromator gap adjustment from 9 nm to 50 nm)
• Luminescence (wavelength range: 300-700 nm).

In addition, the instrument is equipped with a built-in, automatic, inverted fluorescence microscope for brightfield, fluorescence and optical phase contrast imaging of cells with the following parameters:

• Built-in dry objectives, magnifications: 4x, 10x, 40x, 60x (objectives 4x, 10x, 40x with phase-contrast imaging capability)
• Built-in LEDs: 365 nm, 465 nm, 523 nm
• Built-in filters: DAPI (Ex 377/50 nm, Em 447/60), GFP (Ex 469/35, Em 525/39 nm), RFP (Ex 531/40 nm, Em 593/40 nm)

The instrument is suitable for multi-well plate experiments in the formats of 6-384-well plates.
